Er- I was with you all the way to the end. CDC estimates smallpox death rate at 30%.

those old figures are considered inaccurate and have been changed according to the briefing i attended 2 weeks ago thursday.

though 30% or 85% are both horrendous figures...the actual estimate now is 85-90%

also note that in your link one paragraph mentions that 1/2 of the US population has not been vaccinated. that is a feel good comment without substance.

what you do not see written there is that all of us old farts have been vaccinated...but the maximum effective life of the vaccination is 10 years and nobody in the US has been vaccinated against smallpox in the past 25 years.

so even if they got it wrong and the vaccine does protect you...in the event of an outbreak, kiss your kids goodbye.
