<font color=red>From 2CPU.COM Quick peek at the Iwill MPX2 board
Posted by Upaboveit at 6:58AM EST

Brad at ProCooling just shot me a heads up that t-break have popped up a nice picture of the new MPX2 board from Iwill. There's also a cut and paste from the marketing blurb that is a little curious:

Supporting dual AMD Athlon MP processors, PC2100 DDR Memory and PCIX such as gigabit LAN, SCSI Card, Vidio Card...
So the translation is a little sketchy but I definitely saw PCIX in that quote. Mmmm. PCIX. Now that would be interesting as it would mean a substantial redesign of the 64/66 PCI northbridge-southbridge interconnect of the MPX has been done. Sound crazy? Pop over and check it out. There's a big high resolution image of the board waiting for you too. When you get there, notice the lack of space around the sockets and especially around the heatsink postholes. That's going to be a challenge for those of you with big heatsinks.

Athlon XP disabled for SMP? Looks like it.
Posted by Upaboveit at 10:48PM EST

Peter sent word of an article at HarwareZone that shows some interesting information on what AMD has done to the L5 bridges on the XP to disable SMP operation.

Comparing the workable XP and the unworkable XP, we found a certain bridge cut away. Just like how AMD lock the multiplier, we think that this particular bridge may hold the key to enabling the Athlon XP to run in dual configuration.
Interesting reading. It's a bit of speculation as to whether this is the 'secret' to SMP operation in the chips but if it is then it is clear that AMD has finally taken the steps to justify the MPs higher price tag.

Mani - Way to go. What a kind considerate reprimand for a racist who openly violated your sacred rules.
We all know your true colors, now, don't we?
