Mario, you need not have responded so. I don't believe I spoke down to you, and it was not my intent. Sorry you perceived it that way.

You must admit that your question could have been seen as coming from someone that had not been to the website, since JNPR itself says they elect not to sell to Enterprise customers, not wanting to compete with their own customers. One might think they are being careful not to bite the few hands that feed them, or that during the first few years of their existence they saw the greatest return on their investment by selling the most expensive products with the highest margins to a more select target market. JNPR also tries to distinguish their core routers as being 'purpose-built,' in contrast to the products CSCO sells to the enterprise sector.

You will note that rather than assume you had no knowledge whatsoever and put you down, I chose to ask whether you had been to the site (since that would answer part of your very general question). This was a simple question which did not imply any criticism or value judgements. How would I know where to start a response, not knowing what you brought to the table? You must admit you did not offer any frame of reference for your question.

For all these reasons, and not being thoroughly versed enough in the specifics of the various products and customer needs to speculate as to why JNPR doesn't stretch its product line or target sector, I gave the best range of answers I could, given the limited knowledge of where your question was coming from. Part of the answer inherently involves asking the right sets of questions, questions that frame my own research in this sector, so I shared those with you.

Hope this helps, Rich
