Fund inflows:
My view is that, the reason that high fund flows signal Market peaks is that they precipitate filing of IPOs and follow-up public offerings, which siphon off $s from existing stocks. Again, the recent numbers are not terribly significant, but when they get higher, that will be a bearish signal, not a bullish signal. Maximum outflows occurred in mid-Sept, just before the bottom. Prior to that, the best inflows occurred in April-May 2001, around the Market highs.
