Actually, there was only bitter humor after the '73 war and Sharon was speaking something of a wry truth. Israel itself was full of recriminations, more than its usual quota of in-fighting and quarrelling. The shock of the attack brought into question anew peace prospects with the Arabs and resulted in a question of confidence in many critical aspects of life there.

As for the Egyptians, they were far better prepared and surprised the Israelis, i. e., maintaining radio silence. As for thre Israelis, it was a war in which they did leave some dead, wounded and fit to its enemy.
