You couldn't have said it better!

We are living, supposedly, in democratic N. America.

But, in a sense, I am reminded of certain communist countries where, in the past, folks who expressed dissident/contra opinions were regularly told they needed help and/or were forcibly consigned to mental institutions or forced to make self-criticisms/confessions and admissions of guilt in public!
