I think Summit is fine now, when I was investigating REIT's I did a *.un search on the globeinvestor site and ordered all the annual reports, Summit had some problems with previous management, paid them off and should be OK now. Re Oil&Gas I haven't really looked at them recently, I would look at ERF and UET. Maybe pick up Investors Digest, every 2nd issue breaks out the financials in a chart.
You want a basket of them, as opposed to one though,
