Liberals and Leftists just LOVE to dismiss anecdotal evidence like yours as not "statistically sound." Shouldn't moderates and conservatives be afforded the same consideration?

OK, so background checks identify people who have already committed crimes or have been declared insane. They go outside the gun store and find somebody with a gun and buy it from them. No background check, they get a gun. Background checks don't prevent criminals from getting a firearm. Period. The NRA supports instant background checks. What it DOES NOT SUPPORT are using those background checks to harrass the law abiding citizen by retaining the fact that a person applied to buy a firearm.
