CSFB cuts estimates in telecom equipment space (5.06) CSFB is decreasing estimates in space to reflect ongoing weakness in the telecom equipment sector and lack of visibility to end-demand improvement. Firm's 2002 est for Nortel trimmed to ($0.31) from ($0.24) and 2003 to $0.15 from $0.20. Current Multex consensus estimates for the periods are ($0.29) and $0.04... CSFB also lowering numbers on TLAB and CIEN this morning. For TLAB, 2002 goes to $0.10 from $0.15 and 2003 to $0.25 from $0.35. For the same periods, CIEN estimates cut to ($0.73) from ($0.71) and to ($0.43) from ($0.35).

Maria babbling on CNBC about a ton of supply coming to market this week, and investors should wait till the end of the week before entering positions. There's your answer on market direction this week, we're going to the moon. She is given her information by the hedge fund manager at Trimtabs, who is more short the NDX now. Basically, that means Biderman (the manager of the fund) has already made his bet on the market and probably so many others that use the same type of data. I seem to recall he was short the market late last year as well. Not a great call based upon his money inflow indicators back then. I would bet mutual fund managers make their plans to buy the new offerings well in advance; maybe 1 to 2 weeks ago. To think that Maria knows; or trimtabs knows is a joke. They could be proved right but it won't be based on the new offerings information. jmho
