It's like wearing seat belts.
I used to be lax in that area
until I saw the post mortem photos
of head penetration cases where
people went through the windshield.

Venkers darling

I am so glad you weren't hurt

seat belt story

I drive like a maniac, very fast and usually very good, didn't wear seat belts [well I DROVE so well]

took my eyes off the road for a few seconds to read a billboard on the highway and the station wagon in front of me stopped in it's tracks, I hit it at 50 mph dead on

I was driving a sporty 88 GTC, one of the first models they put mandatory air bags in

my car was completely totaled, radiator pushed into the steering column

the big old wagon was barely damaged, no one in it was hurt [the thought that I could have killed someone haunted me for months]

the air bag saved my life, it stopped my body, but not my arms, I broke both hands

I was lucky

also wrote a thank you letter to Lee Iacocca and he answered

still drive fast, but always wear my seat belt
