Sometimes I do have those boxes checked. I've lost track at this point, because I keep changing the options, out of desperation. One site that seems to get me a lot is Time.com, which has delivered its nasties on the way out, like party favors. So as soon as I'm deluged with cookies and the like, I try to leave the site and get barraged with pop-ups. ('So sorry to see you leave. Do you mind if we just commandeer your computer for a few minutes?') So I decide to sit down with a magazine instead, and I wind up getting covered with subscription cards. I turn to CNBS and get swamped with analyst upgrades. I try some transcendental meditation, and all sorts of unwanted junk pops up into my mind. I decide on a walk, and a passing pigeon lets me have it right on the old noggin. (A pigeon drop, ya know -- similar to the schemes on Wall Street.)
