Siebel 7 Expands Product Line

Siebel Systems, Inc. expands its line of industry-specific solutions with Siebel eMedia 7 and Siebel eCommunications 7 for Mobile Carriers. Both products feature enhanced functionalities designed to improve sales, marketing, service, and other customer-facing business processes in order to improve deployment time, rate of end user adoption, and return on investment. The applications join other specialized Siebel eBusiness solutions for financial institutions, healthcare, insurance, energy, consumer goods, life sciences, automotive, travel and transportation, and the public sector.

The products are built on the foundation of the Siebel 7 platform, which uses zero-footprint Siebel Smart Web Architecture. Siebel 7's ability to integrate via an application network ensures interoperability with both Siebel eMedia 7 and Siebel eCommunications 7 for Mobile Carriers with many applications, including homegrown legacy systems, industry-specific niche applications, and external applications for collaborating with partner systems.

Siebel eMedia 7 is a fully integrated suite of sales, marketing, and customer service applications that incorporate industry best practices to help media companies identify, acquire, and retain high-value customers; improve coordination among partners; enhance sales execution, account management effectiveness, and forecasting processes; and automate and streamline integrated business processes across multiple systems.

"Leading media customers such as BusinessWeek and information solutions providers such as LexisNexis are already benefiting from the rich functionality available in Siebel eBusiness Applications. Siebel eMedia 7 provides media enterprises with industry-specific functionality, built upon the Siebel Smart Web Architecture. These companies can coordinate their entire business, including capturing and processing integrated orders for media services, creating and managing accounts for subscription and ad sales, analyzing the performance of their business in real-time, and providing superior service to their customers, from nothing more than a Web browser," said Dan Ford, general manager of Siebel Communications and Media for Siebel Systems. "By leveraging our deep understanding of industry processes, we embed best practices and media-specific functionality into Siebel eMedia 7. This industry solution, built upon Siebel Systems' architecture and robust integration capabilities, reduces the total cost of ownership, mitigates deployment risk, and accelerates the time to return on investment."

Siebel eCommunications 7 for Mobile Carriers provides enhanced functionality for managing customer churn and loyalty, retail partners, and complex service orders. The new release also provides built-in support for customer service and multiple account and billing hierarchies and enables companies to better manage fraud, credit, agreements, provisioning, and work orders. Additionally, Siebel eCommunications 7 for Mobile Carriers provides streamlined integration to leading software vendors; better identification, acquisition, and retention of high-value customers; improved collaboration and coordination; increased sales effectiveness; and the ability to leverage advanced business intelligence.

"Unlike any other eBusiness applications software company, Siebel Systems engages leading communications companies to develop world-class solutions and works with the world's leading systems integrators to validate product design and perform the extensive testing necessary to ship superior software," said Ford. "As a result of Siebel Systems' commitment, every service provider that buys Siebel eCommunications 7 for Mobile Carriers can leverage the best practices of leading carriers and thought leaders in its own business and rapidly deploy a solution specifically tailored to its requirements. Our customers can also take advantage of a number of prebuilt integration solutions to leading back office, billing, and ERP platforms. This allows our customers to leverage investments in mission-critical legacy systems, accelerates time to market, and maximizes their return on investment."

Both applications ship with Siebel Analytics 7, which includes visual, prepackaged, and fully configurable reports and interactive dashboards with best practice metrics for sales, marketing, service, partner management, and executive users.

EMC bumps up storage software lead
With its lead in the storage software market on the upswing, EMC is also making plans to upgrade software produced as part of a partnership with Dell Computer.
A report from Gartner Dataquest on Monday put EMC's worldwide market share at 30.4 percent in 2001, up from 28.3 percent of the market in 2000. Veritas Software was second in 2001, with 19.8 percent, and IBM came in third with 14.2 percent.

EMC's front-runner status stemmed in large part from array-based software, which controls storage systems that use multiple hard drives and that accounts for about one-third of the $4.9 billion market for the storage software. If that segment were excluded from the analysis, Veritas would be in the lead, and EMC would drop to third behind IBM, Gartner Dataquest said.

Separately Monday, EMC announced that it is working with PC maker Dell to enhance the Dell-EMC ControlCenter Navisphere, MirrorView and SnapView software suites. The product upgrades will allow customers to securely manage storage networks from remote locations and increase a storage network's uptime. -
