You can actually make a very solid case that many of the benchmarks where P4 benefits so much from SSE2 are actually bandwidth limited. You can read Paul DeMone's line of reasoning here:

This would also fit with Intel's comment that SSE2 only increases their SPECfp score by ~ 5%.
