hmaly, I don't know what you are talking about. Yes, price/performance is great and everything but for AMD to grow they need high ASPS. I don't care if they can beat the $150 P4 because they sell the ClawHammer for $45. They have to beat the P4 on absolute performance and then demand $200 for their cpu. Another thing is that even though the largest segment of the market is value priced machines the cpu remains an expensive component. The oems can trim other things to put a $150 cpu in their designs. That's what Dell is doing and they're winning. Besides, you need high priced cpus because your value cpus are priced on a curve from the highest priced ones. If you look at pricewatch right now, you'll see that because AMD does not have the highest clocked cpus their cpu selling prices have been compressed within a narrow range. If they had an Athlon 2600+ right now I bet you that they could have raised the prices on the whole range of Athlons.
