I agree with your sentiment.

In the Catholic Church, for example, many women have been ignoring the bans on birth control for a long, long time. And men and masturbation ... well, forever. These people believe they are good Catholics, and they are. They are just waiting for the Church to catch up to them.

People don't want their lives to be micro-managed by fallible humans who wear priestly garments.

I agree that that is a good thing.

At the same time, for most believers, their religion remains a powerful and essential guiding standard as to how they should lead their lives, and serves as a moral compass for the choices they make.
