That doesn't bother me. Americans are pretty clueless when it comes to events outside the US. The average American may be clueless. I definitely think that was the norm 50 years ago but today, there are many people aware of what's going on in the world. I know that because I disagree with many of them all the time. ;~))Outside of North America, just about every country believes that Israel is waging an unjust war against the Palestinians. There are many who believe that the US is waging an unjust war against the bin Laden, Afganistan et al. Many in this country would disagree vehemently. Is that a lack of awareness and information, or is it a matter of perspective and bias? I tend to think its the latter, and I think its analagous to the Israeli/Palestine conflict, and the differing views on that issue. I also don't think its as clear cut as you make it.....the US vs the rest of the world. I think there are others who agree with our view. These folks also believe that since Israel has always received billions in aid from the US, this can only mean that the US approves of this war. We don't? I exaggerate but I think we support the idea that the Israelis must do what they can to insure peace within their borders. So we have millions or billions of people believing that the US is waging war on Palestinians in particular and to some extent on Arabs in general. This is their perception. Is this true? I don't think so but these beliefs are at least partially logical. But Americans don't get this at all, they just want to help Israel which is besieged by Arabs. You seem to get it and I do, and I know a lot of others who do as well. I want Israel to have its nation state but not at the exclusion of Palestine having theirs. I also think we should be spending less money on providing armaments to Israel and more on aid to help Palestine develop what little resources it has. However, foreign policy is not nearly as simple and straight forward as that. And I understand all the little nuances and intricacies involved but I would still suggest we do things the way I have put forth above. Its not that I am unaware but rather its the way I see things in general..........I hate the business of politics and statesmanship. And for that reason, I would never claim that Americans are juggernauts when its comes to international statesmanship. However, I do not think we are the neophytes that we once were say in the 50's. I think Australia inherited that title.;~))So someone is clueless. Is it the US or the rest of the world? If it is the US, how did we get here? I think the world is entirely clueless when it comes to promoting unity and peaceful coexistance. I also think so long as the economic disparity between nations is as great as it is, we will continue to have conflict, we will continue to have terrorism, and the US will continue to be perceived as a superpower that's a superbully. And so long as people see us that way, there will always be the US's view and the rest of the world's view. BTW if you want to continue this discussion, I think we should take it to the old AMD thread. ted
