Pravin,

What do you see as a worst case scenario? THe biggest competitor of the combined HP-Compaq entity will be Dell in the PC, and increasingly server area. I think it is innevitable that combined HP-Compaq will lose market share, if for nothing else other than a fact that if you draw a bulls-eye, and divide it in 3 equal thirds, if you throw a dart, you have a 66% chance of landing on HP or Compaq, 33% chance of landing on Dell, which will move to 50-50 (extreme simplification).

As far as purchases from AMD, both are AMD's customers, but lately, neither went out of their way to offer AMD based computers. HP in particular has been dragging their feet in moving to 133 MHz FSB, PC-2100 DDR, XP, and in general moving Athlons to higher end products.

Compaq has done a little more than HP, especially with the recent EVO notebook win, so Compaq having the shorter end of the stick may be a bit of a problem.

On the other hand, while the number of product lines of HP + CPQ combined may be lower than sum of the individual companies, the number of product lines will most likely be bigger than that of either company alone, potentially giving more room to AMD chips.

Joe

PS: One thing I heard in Jerry's presentation at MSDW was was his comment on EVO notebook win. He said something about this win coming on the heels of similar HP win, which somewhat confused me. I don't think HP has an AMD based commercial laptop.
