"Power Producers Climb

Power producers and traders advanced on speculation the cancellation of billions
of dollars in power-plant projects in recent months will cause electricity
shortages for California and other parts of the U.S. as the economy recovers,
boosting prices.

``We're going to need the power plants'' that companies are now shelving,
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Pat Wood said earlier this
month.

Calpine Corp. rose 38 cents to $13.75, AES Corp. gained 37 cents to $9.17,
Mirant Corp. advanced 54 cents to $13.80. Each has jumped by more than half
this month, after plunging earlier in the year on concern about their accounting
practices and debt.
