I feel mildly refreshed enough to make a foray into the wilderness......No one is utterly spontaneous, over a certain age, at least. Civilization depends upon stifling our impulses. We do not grab someone's money at the ATM, or someone's wife in the broom closet. We do not make a scene in restaurants, or punch out our neighbor for letting his spaniel use our yard as a toilet. In the same way, civilization depends upon an internal censor. Supposed truth or sincerity is no excuse. Gentlemen and ladies do not tell off people at the drop of a hat; do not engross the company's time with their petty grievances; do not wander into conversations to make a few off- the- wall comments and then retreat; do not ignore comments directed at them, unless they are the type that require no response, or the person is non grata at the time; do not pick fights because they are bored; and a number of other rules which are as valid in 1-D as they are in 3-D, because one is still dealing with human beings....Oddly enough, such "hypocrisy" clears the way for the pursuit of more durable truths, not only because discussion becomes more meaningful, but because people reveal character in their considered statements better than in stray remarks that may represent mere whimsy or attention grabbing.......

Truth is illusive, indeed.

Just for clarification, does this mean "truth is elusive" or "truth is illusory"?
