combatted terrorism through military might in
Afghanistan.

Presenting truth and logic to Ray is useless.

He also thinks that profit is bad.

"Other nations do not have our commitments"

You say that like this is a good thing ! <G>

Our "commitments" create violence in the rest of the world, sir.

Without billions in petrodollars and military support those failed countries would have to fight among themselves, have no cause to attack the US, and have to come hat in hand to the UN for food and development aid. If they are lucky and clean up their acts, they can trade with US companies, if not, then France and England. Let France and England finance their own mil-indust adventures, and take the terrorist consequences.

The US has too much money, flowing in too many places, funding all kinds of military adventures among those who instigate what is artfully called "blowback", by accident or design.

All of this is at the behest of those outside the control of the taxpaying voter - recommended by self-appointed intellectuals, media contributors such as yourself, think tanks, diplomat/lobbyists, war profiteers, campaign donors, and the rest of the mil-indust apparatus.

It takes a LOT of cashflow to maintain all of these parasites, and the American taxpayer is up to the task !!

So, you are right, "we" do have commitments.
Boy, do we.

I don't understand those who complain that the U.S. out-spends other countries for defense by "X" amount. That's good, not bad. The more, the better.

If only the U.S. were to spend 100% of the world's defense budget, we wouldn't have much to worry about, would we?
