Re EMC
Dells bargaining power grows greater each day- dealing with financially troubled suppliers. Dell can be a god-send, buying large volumes at stable prices and providing a nominal profit and enough income to keep the supplier in business while avoiding major hassles of re-financing.
No, they wont make a killing on Dell deals, but they will get to stay in the game until economics improve.
Buying time to develop new products or eliminate inefficiencies and Dell will help them do that too.
Both side win.
But Dell will stay very choosey in a buy-out and especially one involving many employees. IMO dealing with employees is not an operation where large efficiencies can be achieved and I think Dell tries to go where efficiencies can be implemented more easily.

Scott, you are being quite generous to EMC <ggg>. By my calculations at it's peak just north of a hundred bucks a share EMC sported an IBM like market cap in the 220 billion range. The *Cisco* of storage... Times sure have changed, I recall ranting and raving on this thread about 'playing with matches' each time someone posted 'I need more JDSU'... Don't have to do that anymore, as the matches have all been lit and the fingers have all been burned <ggg>... I see that the JDSU thread guru Pat Mudge has switched from posting on that thread to carpentry/painting around the house...

Regards,
John

PS - Man the confidence folks had back in those days! Remember how 'riding the bus' (rambus) was all the rage?
