Elmer Re...How do you think a merger will affect AMD's chances of getting a Hammer design win?
EP <<<<<<<

Seeing as both HP and Compaq had both committed to use Itanium, strange as it may seem, I think the merger will increase Hammers chances. HP and Compaq combined would likely come out with a new combined line; with an emphasis upon new technology to symbolize the new company. Hammer, if it lives up to expectations could fit the bill.

Ironically, it seems that HP is the company most inclined to think Intel will be introducing Yamhill. Since Compaq is more strongly committed now to Itanium than HP, and Compaq has stronger sales in the server market, I would think that HP will consolidate Itanium development in Compaq, freeing their own resources up for a potential Sledgehammer server line to compete in the Xeon market. At the same time, it would be likely that Clawhammer offerings in the consumer products area would probably be Compaq only.
