I like your calculation and your results. I did a couple of similar calculations. If all of my holdings which are still below their year 2001 high were valued at that level, I would have a 61% PF gain from where I am now. If all of my holdings which are still below their year 1997 high (and existed at that time) were valued at that level, I would have a 472% PF gain from where I am now. 1997 was not the high point for gold stocks in the 1993-1997 period and as you say they didn't all peak at once, so this lends credence to your "860% average gain". Also, most of these stocks are currently already up 50% and more from their lows of the past 18 months.
