This is a little bit of an expansion of the comments posted earlier by Thomas Weisel as posted by CBS Marketwatch.com.

<<Analyst Kevin Vassily at Thomas Weisel believes Applied Materials (AMAT) is continuing to see signs of improvement in its business, and is anticipating the company's analyst meeting scheduled for Thursday to be "upbeat." The stock is tacking on 51 cents, or 1. percent, to $52.33. Vassily believes the semiconductor equipment maker's order book for the current quarter is tracking ahead of its forecast of 10 to 15 percent sequential growth, which may be enough to lead the company to raise its expectations. "We continue to believe that Applied Materials represents an excellent way to invest in the early part of the upcycle, given the company's product breadth and strong market share at the [chip] foundries," Vassily said in a note to clients.>>
