if one accepts the recovery scenario.

Therein lies the problem.
The recovery will be
1) waeker than anyone expects
2) will not lead to more earnings because there is too much competition and too little demand
3) Will turn out to be inventory rebuilding that will be as hard if not harder to unload this go around

Ever since I got into 'stocks' people have talked about p/e ratios etc etc and how over blown the earnings of the internet stocks or what have you. I remember watching day after day as Iomega kept flying higher and higher. I was thinking all this over a little zip drive; whats the big deal; and soon other manufactures came out with other competing drives; like segate.

anyways my point is or was that things still trade at many time their p/e ratios. I remember stocks being sold that were gimmick companies (smoke and mirrors so some investors can make money) or stocks that are sold on companies not making any money but have the 'potential' to make money.

It's a wierd game we are involved in.
