Considering how badly they let themselves be burned by the near decade-long Itanic vapor trail, why wouldn't they do it again?

Do you think they learned a lesson from the damage they incurred as a result of trusting Intel?

HP got a good look at the Hammer specs, as did Compaq, and IBM and everybody else. They all said no thanks.

The Xeon line makes a lot of money for Intel and x86 servers are not going away for at least 3 years, more if Intel does i86-64. Probably these will be sold under the Compaq line.

... until they switch to Hammer, because it's price/performance is 2X better.
