Dear Jerome: I'm not sure if I like this idea or not ["Compaq name will be retained on all personal computers by HWP"]. On the consumer level, I do see definite advantages. In terms of analysts future research reports on HWP, based on HWP's performance post-merger, however, I have very mixed feelings.

People currently on the thread who were here a few years ago will remember how frustrated people were when CPQ was called a, "Box maker." CPQ had become a lot more than a box maker, but it was the rare analyst or business news writer who was able to get beyond the box.

Now with the merger a seemingly strong possibility, Compaq's name gets reserved for the boxes. Come future (post-merger) HWP analyst guidance and earnings reports, sales, revenues, growth, etc. from the PC segment of HWP will be used as evidence that buying CPQ was or was not a good move.

Just as an FYI (not a dig at you in any way), the papers surrounding the energy policy were released and it is evident that while top level execs were included in meetings, Enron was actually denied top level meetings.

So much for that angle.
