Well, it's Exhibit #1 in the case maintaining that the US is suffering from a great plague of ignorance. Blame it on public education and television if you will, but it will eventually have to run its course...

Because they are political activists. There's no requirement that activists be intelligent. In fact, it's better that they not think for themselves, so they'll just do what they're told and repeat the party mantra.
