I agree with some of what you're saying- definitely consumers of items like cars & trucks & housing should pull back somewhat from the recent peaks as interest rates rise. On the other hand I think the article convincingly shows that consumers are not as jacked up to the gills in debt as many perma-bears would like to portray. There is not likely to be some dropoff in demand huge enough to cause another round of negative GDP- ESPECIALLY if the job market begins tightening back up. People have enough income to both pay back a bit of debt and still continue living fairly largely.
