Dan3,

Re: "Yikes!"

Just more FUD from Ali ... The starting wafer is a small part of
the overall cost of the finished wafer. No need to worry Dan, going
to 300mm is the RIGHT THING to do.

Make It So,
Yousef

Gateway To Launch Solo 1400se Notebook With DVD

SAN DIEGO -(Dow Jones)- Gateway Inc. (NYSE: GTW - news) (GTW) unveiled its Gateway Solo 1400se notebook with an integrated DVD drive for $999 - its first notebook to include DVD under $1000.

In a press release Wednesday, the computer maker said the Gateway portable personal computer also includes a 900-megahertz mobile Intel Celeron processor and Microsoft (NasdaqNM: MSFT - news) Windows XP.

To help launch the new notebook, Gateway will unveil a new television commercial - the first in a series of TV spots promoting the company's digital entertainment capabilities.

Responding to its shrinking sales and U.S. marketshare, Gateway announced in January plans to eliminate about 2,300 additional jobs around the country in an effort to cut costs. On Feb. 27 , Gateway warned that it won't reach profitability until 2003 because of a continuing drop in sales.

New York Stock Exchange-listed shares of Gateway recently changed hands at $ 6.19, down 11 cents, or 1.7%, on composite volume of 1.2 million shares. Average daily volume is 3.1 million shares.

Dannie - Is IBM working on Hammer Software Validation?

Is anybody?

" "IBM's ServerProven validation ensures that H.A. Clusters and H.A. EchoStream have passed a specific, stringent process to work with IBM eServer(a) Intel processor-based xSeries(TM)(b) servers. Customers can create robust high-availability and data-backup/ recovery solutions for all Linux(R)-based servers throughout their entire enterprise, including mixed platform environments." "

IBM Validates H.A. Technical Solutions' High Availability Software as IBM ServerProven
Jump to first matched term
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2002--

Clustering and Data Replication Software
Now IBM ServerProven Business Solutions
H.A. Technical Solutions (HATS) - a leading provider of high-availability software solutions for OEM and enterprise markets - announced today that IBM has validated its H.A. Clusters(TM) High Availability Clustering Software and H.A. EchoStream(TM) Data Replication Software as IBM(R) ServerProven(R).

According to LeRoy Earl, HATS executive vice president, "IBM's ServerProven validation ensures that H.A. Clusters and H.A. EchoStream have passed a specific, stringent process to work with IBM eServer(a) Intel processor-based xSeries(TM)(b) servers. Customers can create robust high-availability and data-backup/ recovery solutions for all Linux(R)-based servers throughout their entire enterprise, including mixed platform environments."

"We're pleased to welcome H.A. Technical Solutions as a member of the IBM ServerProven program," said Nancy Williams, IBM Director, Worldwide Solutions, IBM eServer. "ServerProven validation gives customers confidence that they're investing in the right high-availability solution that works right out of the box, adding value to and protecting their business investment."

"We tested our clustering and data replication products to run on xSeries servers in a mixed platform environment under Caldara Linux, Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux and TurboLinux," says Earl. "We also validated that our combined H.A. EchoStream/H.A. Clusters solution for high availability/data backup/recovery works in these Linux environments on the xSeries platform."

H.A. Clusters delivers 99.999 percent up time capabilities for applications and data by automatically failing over from any IBM eServer running Linux to any other IBM eServer running Linux. In addition, by replicating data to a backup device, H.A. EchoStream(TM) provides a current copy of the customer's data that is immediately accessible, eliminating the delay and expense of less reliable tape.

Cost-effective Operations & High Availability for Mixed-Platform
Enterprises
HATS software running on IBM eServer Intel-based xSeries provides a cost-effective, flexible solution to meet the growing demand for preventing costly downtime (estimated to be $1,400-plus per minute) and addressing disaster recovery in today's mixed-platform computing environments, comprised of Windows, Linux and legacy servers.

Earl noted, "Our clustering and data replication software for Linux not only will provide consistent solutions for the entire IBM eServer product line, but also will support multi-platform computing environments with the fastest, least expensive high-availability and data-recovery solutions that provide the greatest functionality and flexibility."

H.A. Clusters provides availability for mission-critical applications hosted on Linux servers by providing automatic failover to a server running Linux on an xSeries server, to an IBM iSeries(TM) (AS/400(R)) server running Linux, or to an IBM pSeries(TM) (RS/6000(R)) server running Linux. In addition, running under Java 2 version 1.3.1 or higher, H.A. EchoStream can replicate file server or database data to an IBM iSeries or pSeries server, a network attached storage device (NAS), a storage area network (SAN) appliance or a disk array.

H.A. Clusters & H.A. EchoStream

Unlike many high-availability solutions, H.A. Clusters and H.A. EchoStream are software-only solutions that do not require proprietary hardware and run on more platforms than any other software of their kind for platform independence. Plus, they are affordable high-availability solutions for mission-critical client/server, firewall, RDBMS, and Internet applications that require exceptional uptime and automatic real-time data replication for storage management and backup.

H.A. Clusters software transparently monitors all servers in a cluster to prevent disruptions and availability glitches. When the monitoring system detects a failure in the server hardware or applications software, it initiates failover and restarts multiple failed services. H.A. EchoStream provides full-strength reliability with real-time data replication, so a current copy of the customer's data is immediately available when failover occurs.

Dan, Ali
re: Some suppliers predict the 300mm wafer price will be only 3.5x that of a 200 mm wafer within three years.
is not it the same time frame as for amd's 300mm fab?
