No, it's true, many rapists don't leave their DNA behind.

I imagine that if, say, another 25% of them did, we'd have 25% more DNA-proved innocence to witness. I have no proof of this, but off hand I can't see what variables would make it not a statistical probability. Of course there are many fewer volunteers to pursue these DNA tests in dubious convictions than there are prisoners and families of prisoners begging for the tests, so maybe the increase in number would not translate to DNA tests.

The law enforcement people don't want those prisoners to get the test. They customarily want the case closed and the prisoner to shut up. There have been exceptions.

Each time a rapist does leave his DNA behind, and another male is convicted of his rape, that tells me something about the system that adds to the other facts that make it impossible for me to support capital punishment, however much hate is in my soul for certain murderers.
