Some of the "gurus" I follow think gold needs to retest $285, maybe $280, before it can move up in a significant way.

One nice thing about the majors is the availability of margin and options. You can even buy 2004 leaps with NEM and some others, and get some nice leverage.

I'm beginning to think there is no real answer to the question of ideal portfolio allocation between juniors and majors. This is bringing me back to my original idea of a 50/50 split. I like the idea of diversification, with no more than 20% in BAY, and 10-15% in anything else.

Of course, I am open to new information that would convince me to weigh my PM portfolio more towards juniors or big-caps.

Which Juniors are you referring to that are ready to explode? Glamis?
