I would appreciate you letting me know if you find any evidentiary data to suppport any of your speculations. I would be interested in finding out why the murder rate was 35% lower in the States which has abolished the death penalty than those which were executing people. For your information, the aggregate of the States curently without the death penalty (Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin) have approximately half the rate of murders as the aggregate of the DP States. It would be great if you could find some evidence to explain this. Thanks, Tim. "That's focusing on an unimportant issue" You could hardly have meant that. Perhaps you mean that it was not important to you because you were reading the link of generalized statistics with a personal agenda of critiquing their relevance to a narrow consideration? I posted the link as a general and rather wide ranging set of points from a respected organization who (like the ABA) has been active in promoting judicial fairness. My first thought on seeing the stats on the child death sentences was to wonder why they were so high as compared to countries I considered far less tolerant of human rights and relatively unconcerned with the kinds of checks and balances common to western culture. Additionally, while I apreciate that the US is as populous as Nigeria and Pakistan combined, or at least almost so--still...it was a surprise to find democracy beset with such problems in the younger population."How old was the youngest person ever executed in the US in say the last 2 or 3 decades? Of course the appeals could take years so perhaps the more important question is how young was the youngest executed murder at the time of the murder? " I don't know why you consider that important when you have just said that the fact that 160 children had been sentenced to die was an unimportant issue? Now, for some reason, you wish me to go scouring the internet for their ages. I am sure I could probably find the answer to your concerns, but I would ask first that you share with me the nature of your concern and what positions you are attempting to explore or to construct? You do have a habit of asking a lot of questions, Tim, and that is fine; but you would probably meet with more assistance if you would give your questions some context as they relate to your beliefs and to the overall points you seek to make, if any. I posted the link as a matter of interesting statistics. I am not the guardian of any statistics on any subject, but if you wish me to assist you with something then please dress your questions up for the occasion. I have enough nakedness to deal with right now without scratching my head over naked questions...
