Frank,

<<A lot of paper is being exchanged, for really no good reason, other than boredom by itchy fingers.>>

You may be right, but there may be other explanations. If within the trading range there is larger volume on the price rises than the drops, then that would be a sign of accumulation and an indication to me that it is safer to buy. Guys like you and me are small enough to buy or sell without unduly influencing price, but bigger buyers will start buying at their preferred price and stop when it reaches their highest acceptable price. Then they wait for the price to drop and start buying again. A trading range for a sector can also provide an opportunity to rebalance one's PF and make some spare change while waiting for the next move.

IMHO, if we're not ready to move now, it will be soon.

Regards,

vt

If everyone understood options, it would be harder to make money with them.

I picked up some PDG because it seemed to be one of those PM stocks that people have been dumping. It may just be that it is a badly run company but I had read that it is one of the few bigger PM companies that might be ripe for take over. I was on the wrong side of the NEM FN merger, on the right side of the HM ABX buyout, so I am trying for 2 out of 3. In fact I had sold some of my GOLD to buy NEM and would have done better sticking with the GOLD. Options are a good way to churn, currently short April 22.5 puts on NEM waiting for them to disappear. Basically, I'm selling covered calls on some of my shares when they seem to have temporarily peaked and selling puts on them when they seem to have bottomed. If the price continues up then I take profits on my holdings and if they continue down, I buy some more shares. NEM is very liquid and has relatively small spreads on bid and ask. Ro
