I visualized Int'l peacekeepers and thus my reaction. Upon reflection, I can barely imagine any countries allowing thier people to enter as peacekeepers in such a volatile environment. Americans as peacekeepers?.....can't imagine it being acceptible to one side. It would be perceived as the lion guarding the lambs."The West" is still decorously averting its eyes from the obvious fact that Arafat is ordering and directing most of the terror, which is being performed by organizations on his payroll, and giving aid and approval to the Islamist organizations not under his direct control. I'm not convinced the West feels Arafat is the total instigator as you believe. I believe they think he has lost control and these forces are acting mostly independantly IMO.If they haven't thrown up their hands yet, what makes you think they would in this situation, particularly as the PLO would do everything in its power to arrange for the Israelis to shoot the Americans by accident. Can you say, more charges of "Israeli excessive force"? As I explained I was thinking Int'l peacekeepers. If the Americans were the peacekeepers I honestly think the West would not be as appalled because they would rationalize " the Yanks had to know what they were getting themselves into and it wasn't a good plan, it invited disaster". Don't misunderstand me, there would be great disgust but........Besides, Bush, Cheney and the CIA have no more illusions about Arafat and the PLO. They are bowing (foolishly imho) to pressure from our so-called Arab allies. This pressure would still be operative with American peacekeepers on the ground. Not quite sure how this relates to the issue we were dealing with. Regards C C
