He said, "With regard to those countries, we must realize we don't have the answers to their problems. Only they can find those answers." He was talking about Pakistan and India, but the same holds for the rest of the co-dependents on America, Israel, Palistine, Saudi, Columbia, etc etc. This co-dependence is brought about by our demented Beltway Boobs. Too bad K didn't say that about Indochina back in the Old Days. Better late than never, eh? Nixon, too, I'm sure said some worthwhile things. It's the unworthwhile ones that carry an unfortunate amount of weight tho' When you say "only Nixon could have gone to China", that's fine PR, but I'm of the perhaps naive opinion that the progress of these frightening powers of China and Soviet Russia were tracked by freedom and technology influences, regardless what kind of failing system they espouse. Our somewhat insane DOD hawks were just waiting for a chance to decimate anyone who got frisky. And still are. Our militarism was more a cause of their militarism, than anything, IMO. And now, we're seeing the more rational course of events in those countries, which would have been the case 30 years ago without goading into military postures. Both countries are advancing rapidly into the 21st Century. Leaving aside whether China would have been any more trouble without the visit, I have to admit I have a hard time granting Nixon any special credit as an American, considering his absolute lack of regard for the Constitution, human life, the American people, or the law. A shameful legacy that will live on permanently.
