On electoral politics, I recommend Frank Bruni's new book, Ambling Into History, on the Bush campaign and Bush himself. It's best seen as a "character" study. Good read. It will overfill your supply of strange George Bush quotes for parties; it will let you see a bit of the guy's charm; it will not let you see any of his policy stuff; and it will convince you even more than Jeffrey Toobin's book on Florida that the real story of the 2000 election is that Gore lost it--not that Bush won it.
