Well, I believe that he did want to sell grain to the Chinese. Chinese agriculture had, it seems, changed dramatically, from the beginning to the end of the 19th Century.

You know, I just realized, that in two days I had a running debate with Craig and Dan about 19th Century British International trade...sigh. I think this should be my last posting for a few days.
