The cash indices typically have an open that more closely reflects yesterday's close - the historical data does not accurately reflect a strong or weak opening. For the NYSE, the open is equal to yesterday's close. Over the last couple of years, the Nasdaq open is accurate, but for most other cash indices, the opening data is essentially yesterday's close. It's important to know this went testing historical data. The futures open data is accurate.
