I would not say totally, but the bad conclusion about the
extra way of associativity may be premature.
The point is that the time-shared OS threads are most likely
candidates for conflict misses, where the extra way
might help a lot, so the application will suffer less.
Unfortunately, it is useless to tell all this cache
science to Wanda, [s]he is not sure even how to
spell "TLB"...

Dan, you make a good point, but I assure you that the results would be similar, even in an "ideal" setup. But since this was the best I could find after a few minutes of web surfing, it will have to do. If you can come up with some better results that disagree with mine, I would be happy to entertain them.
