In fact, you do think she has a screw loose, and, if it is about something rather large, it is not a mere foible, either. Perhaps you just see burning bushes, snakes and apples, etc. as part and parcel to the "basic human reaction of the mysteries of existence" rather than a cultural adjunct. Or perhaps it's your love of tradition that makes you wrap the essence of belief and the traditions together whereas I think all traditions should have sunset provisions. Or perhaps I'm just more tolerant of foibles than you are. (To me, a single loose screw is a foible). I'm not a perfectionist and can look past them quite easily. (I don't do as well at separating the doer from the deed, however. Detachment has its limits.) I'm also tolerant of others pointing out my foibles, which are many. No biggie. But there I am getting into analysis again... I don't see any basis for agreement on this one. And I can't operate by those rules. I have just too strong an instinct to dissect and examine ideas. Yes, I know, there are those who don't think religion is an idea. I think it was JLA who told me that. I'm paying attention. Earlier in our discussion I asked you whether you wanted the brite line to read "have" or "express" contempt. You said that express was the lower standard, but acceptable. I think now that it is the higher standard. I don't have contempt for anyone here with whom I've discussed religion, but I've apparently expressed what is perceived as contempt. I can meet the higher standard, but not the lower one. Ain't that a kick in the head. At least now I understand better why you view me as me as a Philistine. Karen
