Actually, it's a sign to use caution. Typically in AMAT a split occurs near the top of a price move (1995, 1997 and 2000) or a least that is what a long term chart that Gottfried posted some time ago infers. Sorry, can't find the URL. Caveat: I am long AMAT but hedged with short calls but not delta neutral yet.
