The processes by which DNA is collected should be highly controlled because it is so easy to contaminate the samples.
I worked once with a genetic engineer who was highly critical of the environment under which any DNA sample was processed. He wouldn't allow you to breathe, sneeze or pass your hand over a sample that was headed for PCR analysis.....which is the technology used to define DNA molecules. He actually helped design and invent the PCR so I would consider him an expert. He has gone on to genetically engineer some fetal neuron cells that are now being injected into the brains of stroke victims and are helping bring about neural reconstruction.....he's no dummy!
He was also appalled at how LAPD processed the samples in the OJ case. Many different aspects of the sample handling were botched in huge fashion. The police were not properly instructed in how to preserve samples for DNA recovery. I watched them walking over the bodies in TV videos while coughing and sneezing over the uncovered bodies.................they clearly contaminated the bodies with their own DNA. ALl the samples had to be grossly mixed therefore rendering them useless for evidence. It's no wonder that the evidence showed other sources of DNA.............probably the cops themselves!!

My point is that if you will be performing tests that will put people in jail for life or cause them to get a death sentence then you should damn well be doing your job 100% correctly!! OJ was probably guilty in my opinion,,,,,,,but the cops did blow the case.
