" I suspect that you would always be able to tell a contaminated sample from an actual match. So if the cops are honest, they would know they really didn't have a match and would either let the perp go or rely on other evidence."

PCR defines what is there............how it got there is beyond the scope of the system. I suppose if there were a large number of extra molecules identified then one could tell that it was not a normal sample.
example: Sam has DNA that has AHIFGP in it. An analysis is done on a sample and found to have AHIFGPWEJ . You now know that it is an abnormal sample but you don't know why. TWo police who were at the crime scene have AHIFWE and AHIFEJ. Maybe they contaminated the sample but you won't know unless you do an analysis on all the police at the scene. You can only make a probability assessment as to where it came from. Easier to provide 100% crime scene integrity by educating the police.

WHen the police brought out a blanket from Nicolle's house and covered her with it they contaminated everything. Her kids used that blanket and it was covered with their cells..........their cells contained OJ's and Nicolle's
patterns cause they were the parents.

THe whole DNA thing was screwed up there and Barry Scheck did a good job of proving it. People I worked with were aghast at the procedures used in the LA lab. Most of us thought OJ played a part in the murders, but the case against him was botched.

"And when will this be ready? I think I could use it now. :-)"

LOL.......!!!! Maybe we shouldn't go there at all so I'll avoid any subjective point of discussion!!! LOL

Here is the objective part:
They are in clinical trials right now. Stroke victims are getting the cells injected into their brains and are experiencing some recovery......I don't know how much recovery but I have heard it's quite successful. THey are going into a model for Parkinson's and also spinal cord injuries. The brain studies are being done first becasue they can use the same safety studies for the clinical trials. Alzheimer's is another disease that may be helped with this stereotaxic brain cell injection.

The cells came from a fetal tumor and were engineered into mature human neurons. The miraculous possibilities to help human suffering is remarkable.

All that I have said here is public knowledge but please note that I can't say anymore due to confidentiality about the neuron projects.

Hope is on the way!!
