Re: MS judge in shock MSWord to WordPerfect defection

Word has trouble with long documents that have a lot of footnotes. As the document gets longer performance falls off a cliff - no matter how fast your PC. So documents have to be split into chapters in separate files and that kills the chance for automatic TOC, footnote, and endnote (Table of Authorities) numbering. Lawyers simply can't use Word, it won't work for the kind of document they produce. I used to think this was another urban legend, but have since had it demonstrated for me, on both Office 97 and Office 2000. Our staff hasn't tried Office XP yet for this class of documents, but I'm not holding my breath.
