JFD,

I didn't time the whole fiasco much better than you. My policy has always been to make portfolio adjustments a little at a time. My wife's policy has always been buy and hold with no selling. She's a big influence and the result was that we left more in the market than I really wanted to.

We made some significant changes and moved quite a bit from some high flyers to safer harbor in 2000, but not enough to say that we were unscathed. Our portfolio has taken a beating along with most peoples. We are very thankful that MSFT didn't fall as much as the rest of the techs.

Sure wish I knew what the future holds. My bet is that the recovery in both the economy and the markets will be very slow.
