Dear El: Thanks for the posting. I totally agree. Cash compensation to top executives today has gotten so obscene that I almost wonder if these people have any concern for the share price of the stock.

Make umpty-nine million cash... So what if a once high priced stock is now in the single numbers, no matter how many shares of the company the person holds. The shares of stock held is merely gravy. The cash paid is what counts.

I bet we'd see very different performance out of some people if they were paid entirely in stock rather than in cash. Say, pay someone (quarterly) 62,000 _shares_ of company X, trading at 20 when the shares/year was decided as compensation. Share price goes up, person makes more (in dollar value of the shares). Share price goes down? He/she gets to suffer along with all the other shareholders.
