Why would any chipset care what the internal multiplier is on the CPU? The important thing is that it meets the bus specs. The chipset can't tell the difference, it only sees the bus transactions, not the insides of the CPU.

Asus A7M266-D says that in the manual. It is online. What I am thinking about doing is buying this mobo, sticking an old plain Athlon Thunderbird (it says it supports just about anything in single user configuration), and later on buy Tbred based MPs.
