Ken, Well, your chemistry classes help you out some. I avoided them like the plague, and took biology instead. That was a lot more fun.

I first used ethanol in 94 in a 93 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and it worked fine without any complications. I kept that Jeep until 99, when I got a Grand Cherokee Laredo, and it was still running like a top, but I had not been able to buy ethanol where I lived, since 96, and it is not available where I live now. If it was, I would use it again.

If a farmer receives a subsidy on corn, or not, it is extremely difficult for a farmer to make a living growing corn. When you figure in the cost of seed, fertilizer, equipment, against the ridiculously low price on the market, he has a hard time making ends meet.

BTW, If you want to know everything about subsidies, or any other government give-away, ask Tiger Paw. He gets in on every one he can.

<<Ethanol is another name for alcohol as in rubbing, whiskey and many other uses, etc. >>

Ethanol is a type of alcohol that is different from what you drink. It smells a lot like wood alcohol.

You mentioned it had less power than straight gas, and a 100% Ethanol has about 10% less power than gas, but the Indy 500 runs pure 100% Ethanol. I wouldn't call those cars slow at 200+ mph.

The advantage to 10% Ethanol is you get a 60% cleaner burn. What you lose in power from the Ethanol you gain from burning your gas more completely. + Less pollution. + no water in the gas line from condensation.
