I don't know this speaker. The term "fundamentalist" definitely originated as a Christian distinction. I object to the way the term is bandied about. "Extremist" is probably it's counter part. Apart from the political connotations, however, belief systems and principles are fundamental to any thinking persons approach to life. I think the negatives come when people are seen following basic religious practices without any clue to the underlying value or principle of the practice. So, we see applications that are innapropriate for the given context and label it "extreme" or "fundamentalist" or something.
